MessageMedia is one of Australia's largest SMS providers, and actually the brand behind a lot of other providers. In the previews few years they have acquired many other smaller providers and operate them as sub brands.
They were founded in 2001 and are headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. With that long in the business they've developed a large suite of tools and have a mature product offering.
Uptime and SLA
MessageMedia offers a robust API backed by a high speed gateway that can deliver over 500 messages per second (though default rate limits are much lower). With these high message volumes other providers back up, however Message Media is able to deliver millions of messages per month for single customers.
They also offer industry leading uptime and low API latency, with almost all (95%) of messages delivered in under two seconds to the carrier. Customers sending high volumes are able to request custom SLAs.
MessageMedia is used by many of Australia's largest public traded companies, including NAB, Commonwealth Bank, Rebel, 13cabs and more.
Support
MessageMedia has 24/7 support, backed by local Australia teams during the Australian working hours and overseas teams outside local hours.
These teams are able to assist with both technical and billing/account issue, and are some of the best in the industry. We've had tickets resolved in under 10 minutes, even for complex issues that required specific domain knowledge.
Will MessageMedia work for your SMS needs?
For Large Organisations
MessageMedia is probably your best choice as a large business, as they have an emphasis on security and support, as well as dedicated account managers that can assist whenever required. You'll be in good company, with many of Australia's other ASX200 businesses also utilizing them for their SMS needs.
When you want to integrate with your own software, MessageMedia has dedicated integration teams that can assist your development teams, however this comes at additional cost that needs to be discussed with your account manager.
MessageMedia also uses high quality routes, while more expensive that some cheaper providers, has considerably better deliverabilty and is backed by a 100% delivery guarantees.
Messages are accepted by API, the web interface, SMPP or can be handled by your account manager.
For SME and Small Business
MessageMedia caters best for larger businesses, as their messaging rates are considerably higher that other providers when sending smaller quantities of messages (under 1 million per month).
This means you'll be paying considerably more for messaging, but you are getting the high quality service and support that you'd expect at that price.
They don't charge a monthly fee for their prepaid, but there are minimum volume commitments to receive lower SMS pricing that the standard rates.
Most features offered for free by other providers are gated behind high plans, which cost up to $699 per month (though, they do include some bundled SMS credits)
Pricing
MessageMedia's prepaid SMS rate is 8 cents AUD per message, one of the most expensive in the industry. Those rates drop to 5.7 cents per message on their $699 "Advanced" plan, but this requires a minimum 12-month contract.
